    Frequently Asked Questions

    What is Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP)?

Scalp Micropigmentation abbreviated to SMP is a non-surgical and non-invasive hair loss treatment. By definition SMP is medical-grade-tattooing.

Matching colour pigments are deposited into the scalp to replicate the natural appearance of real hair follicles, creating a new hairline and the look of a full head of hair.

The end results mirror a closely-shaven head like a buzz cut or it can add density to thinning hair.

    Does Scalp Micropigmentation look real?
Scalp Micropigmentation when carried out by experienced artist provides results that are hard to tell the difference against real short hair. When I had SMP my family and friends were in awe of the outcome and just couldn’t believe it wasn’t real noting praising how youthful I looked. (very nice feeling after 20 years bald!)
    Is Scalp Micropigmentation permanent?

SMP is categorized as a permanent procedure however the pigment can fade over time.

The need for a top up will depend on each individual, for example their sun exposure over time.

We recommend a short touch-up every 4-5 years. We discount for top-ups with previous clients.

How long does Scalp Micropigmentation take?

Scalp Micropigmentation takes place over 3-4 sessions and a standard session lasts 2-4 hours depending on the amount of area that requires treatment.

There are 2 weeks between sessions to allow appropriate healing. If required a 4th session can be scheduled to add further density if needed.

How do you choose the right colour?

Ther colour and density are gradually built up over the sessions to ensure a perfect colour match and blend with your existing hair.
Through experience we always start slightly too light with the colour on session 1, then make small adjustments in the following sessions to get the clients ideal result.

How do you design the hairline?
We view the hairline as the most important part of SMP as it frames the face and should be discussed with each individual client as it’s a personal choice. Whether you want soft & natural or sharp & defined we will work with you for the outcome you want.
Why Scalp Bros over other clinics?
We are a local Edinburgh business providing worldly hairlines! Our master artist Toby has had the procedure done and has become a master of his profession making bald more bold and beautiful!
Does Scalp Micropigmentation pigment change colour over time?
As the pigment used is specific to SMP it will not change colour over time but may lighten quite different from a regular tattoo.
If I'm having density treatment only do I have to shave my hair off?

No, for density treatment we work around your current hair so need to do anything
